At its core "Faithful" by Kim Cash Tate is about three women whose belief in God's faithfulness is being tested. Cyd is single and turning 40 on the day her younger sister is getting married. When the best man sweeps her off her feet, Cyd is torn between impulses and waiting for the man she knows is right for her. Meanwhile her friend Dana discovers her husband is having an affair. Though he apologizes and says he wants their marriage to work, she must decide whether or not to trust him. At the same time Phyllis' husband is antagonistic towards her faith, and when she meets a man who loves God and treats her well, she has to decide where her heart should be.
I really appreciated this book. Though I am not in the life stage of any of these women I can relate to the sentiment of wondering where God is at and whether or not he will be as faithful as he has promised to be. Furthermore, Tate captures church culture spot on: the humor, the terminology, even the hypocrites. It didn't feel fake, like people running around on pristine beaches. It felt like something my friends could be experiencing.
Frankly, I don't really care for romances. But the title intrigued me, so I read it. To my surprise, it was a page turner, and several nights I caught myself thinking, "I simply must go to bed, but maybe I'll just read one more chapter..."
Full disclosure: I was sent this book for free in return for a review.
