I anticipated that there would be some work involved in making this shoe look the way it should because I noticed that the pictures of the different colors of this shoe all look slightly different. Well, I was right. When it came, the flower-like decoration was wrapped in cardboard at the base, making it into a tube shape; when I unwrapped it, it just stayed in that shape. There was even some thread wrapped around the base holding it in that shape. It looked like a petunia that hasn't opened yet. It looked kind of ridiculous on a shoe.
Here is how I made this into a pretty spectacular and unique shoe. I removed those extra threads holding it into a tube shape and tied off some loose ends that were dangling. Then I sewed the flower/ruffle thing to the vamp, making it into more of a rainbow shape than a flower shape. (I had planned to try to make the flower part lie flatter, perhaps by attaching a button in the center, but that wouldn't work because the fabric is not a circular shape, it's actually a semicircle-shaped ruffle.)
In the end I used long stitches going through the fabric in kind of an accordion fashion, making it lie very linearly along the vamp; it still has a ton of vertical height and doesn't look anything like a flower, but it looks pretty cool and I haven't seen another shoe like it so I am satisfied. I bought this shoe in fuschia.
