This book is a diary of a girl who hangs out with the wrong kind of guys at first. Guys involved with gangs and ditching. But then she decides to try to change her life for the better. Its in the 70's and the girl who writes this diary had been ditching school alot with friends, but then she quits to try harder to do better in school. A month later someone who is jealous of her snitches on her about her ditching. She gets in alot of trouble but still wants to make things better. She tries out for cheerleading and ends up being the only one who doesn't get picked for a squad. Her two older sisters tell her shes ugly and make fun of her and in her determination to prove them wrong she decides to take up tennis. She gets pretty good at it and joins the Tennis team. Then she meets a guy and goes crazy over him. He likes her but wants his freedom also. They go surfing together all summer and she finally thinks shes on the right track but eventually she find out things about him that cause more problems for them. I wont say what happens next because things get really dramatic and her feelings fly up and down on this rollercoaster ride of a book. There are some really funny things that happen in this book and then there are some sad events that I found myself relating to. All teens experience heartbreak and depression and its interesting to read a true story about how someone else dealt with this experience.
