I thought the shoes would stretch open enough to get them on but they don't. They are very stiff. I was very disappointed since I LOVED these shoes for my daughter at this age. She wore her pink Umis all winter when she was learning to walk. They are wonderful since they aren't stiff on the bottom and give some flexibility to the child learning to use his/her feet.
